It was another day with a clear blue sky over Košice, as the World Masters Orienteering Championships athletes raced the sprint final on Sunday morning.
After yesterday’s qualification the Technical University campus, the WMOC arena moved some hundred meters to the south towards the old town center of Košice with the last controls and finish in Mestský park.
Another day with hardly any meters to climb but constant route choice challenges to handle in the narrow streets.
11 different nations won gold medals today with Norway being the most successful with 5 gold medals. Sweden, Finland and Switzerland followed behind with 3 golds each.
The smallest winner margin came in M50, where Johan Petterson (SWE) was just a second ahead of Joaquin Gonzalez Perez (ESP) in the fight for gold.
Conversely, Torid Kvaal (NOR) won with the biggest time difference in W80, where Leena Paatero (FIN) took silver – 94 seconds slower than the gold medalist.
Home nation Slovakia even had a gold medal to celebrate, as Renata Barcikova won W55 today.
