The IOF Council made several major event appointments in connection with its meeting in Warsaw January 18-19, 2019. Among them the World Masters Orienteering Championships 2022.

At the October meeting of Council, changes were approved to the IOF World ranking System (WRS) with effect from January 1 2019 following a review of the WRS.

Ján Furucz, current world champion in PreO and silver medallist in TempO, has been chosen as the TrailO Athlete of 2018 as a result of his remarkable performances during last season. Furucz grew up in an orienteering family; his two brothers and his sister practised orienteering too, and his father was their coach while his mother took care of them. Nowadays, both he and his brother are part of the Slovakian TrailO team, which helps them support each other and constantly pull harder to improve.

The first person ever to win World Championship medals in three different orienteering disciplines: that is the distinction achieved by Sigurd Dæhli when the Norwegian open relay team took the silver medals at last year’s World TrailO Championships in Lithuania.

The Competition rules for IOF MTB Orienteering Events and IOF Trail Orienteering Events have been updated. The new set of rules are valid from 1 January 2019.

Each year, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) updates their List of Prohibited Substances and Methods. The 2019 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods (List), which comes into force on 1 January 2019, was published by WADA in October.

A number of event appointments were made at the recent IOF Council meetings in Prague, Czech Republic.

The final events of the season in the unofficial European Cup in Trail Orienteering (ECTO) were held in Prague last weekend, and the outcome in the overall standings was a victory by 10 points for Jan Furucz, Slovakia.

IOF IT Commission invited the orienteering world to present and discuss orienteering relevant technology – timekeeping, GPS, analysis, services, hardware, software etc. The Open Meeting were held at the 6th August 2018 during WOC 2018 in Riga, Latvia.
